Plucky Squire is an action-adventure platform game that was released in September 2024. I had my eye on this game way before the release and while I was waiting for it, I got distracted by other games and forgot to play it.
Which was kinda lucky on my side because now Plucky Squire is “free” if you have the PSN subscription. So if you already have it, you have no reason for not trying out the game.
Storyline
Plucky Squire’s story revolves around the brave Jot who is trying to save the “happy ending” of the book. He is fighting against villain Humgrump who eventually kicks Jot out of the story book. Which ends up being a great thing for Jot because he can explore inside and outside of the book, which also makes his mission to save everything a little bit less of a nightmare.
While being inside the book everything is 2d and outside of the book, everything is 3d. A very unique take, which makes the game really interesting to play.
Gameplay
As far as the actual gameplay, game mechanics, fighting, getting around, and etc. it’s pretty much so basic that even a child could figure it out. Which is a great thing because the game is perfect for them too. If you want to play with your kids or have a great first game for them to try, Plucky Squire is a fantastic choice.
Anyways, Jot is a sword wielder most of the time. There are some instances where you might get a chance to use some other weapons or even be able to play as one of his companions but for the majority of the time you’ll have to use a sword against the enemies.
You’ll start with the basic attack and work your way from there. Basically, on your journey to save the story, you’ll be getting light bulbs which is game currency that can be spent on buying new skills, upgrading the ones you already own, or unlocking unique artwork. So make sure to check every corner of the map, check every bush, and so on. You’re going to need a lot of them.
The game also features interesting challenges and all sorts of puzzles that you’ll need to solve in order to unlock the next chapter of the story.
Graphics and audio
Plucky Squire is a beautiful, cozy, colorful, all in all well designed game with perfect music, sounds, and voice lines that create an immersive story that people of all ages can appreciate. Everything works as intended and there is not a single bug that I’ve encountered in my playthrough. Soooo, big thumbs up for them.
Final Words of Wisdom
Just like I’ve already said before, Plucky Squire is free with a PSN subscription, and even if you don’t have a PlayStation and want to play it on the PC, I still believe that the game is worth the money and you’ll end up enjoying it. Have fun, live a little.
