Palworld Review by a Pokemon Gym Leader

Palworld has taken over the world out of nowhere. And people are having split emotions about it. They either love it or hate it really hard by calling it a scam, “they stole from Pokemon”, and many more accusations.

If I had to classify it as something, I would say it’s a mix of elements from Pokemon, Genshin Impact, and Minecraft. But nonetheless, with over 8 million sales on Steam in 6 days, the game can hardly be called a failure. When it came out, I have to admit to having a small amount of skepticism, but I had to see it for myself to know for sure. Now, after spending a couple of days glued to the screen, I can say “Money well spent”.

My Thoughts

I started the game kinda slow. I was confused about a couple of things and it took me some time to get used to it.

Now, there is no wrong way to play the game, you kinda make a path for yourself. Once I established my base, built a couple of things, and got my spheres, I was off to catch some Pals.

At the start, you catch some sheepies, chickens, and cats-like creatures. As you level up, improve your base, and explore more of the world you get to catch different Pals.

I was focused on leveling and catching some nice shiny Pals, which means I just threw stuff in my base without much care. But now as a fairly experienced Pal tamer, I have some ideas about making a “proper” base. That’s the charm of Palworld —  you learn on the go and fix your “mistakes” later on.

It’s also worth mentioning that I was playing in an easy mode, which is more forgiving than the rest of the modes. For example, if you die in easy mode you get to keep your stuff when you die, and you get more experience but in a harder mode, it gets trickier.

Once I get even more experienced and more confident, I’ll be creating another world to try everything in a very hard mode.

Graphics

When It comes to the general look of the game, I kinda like it. The character design and customizations are kinda basic, some of the starter Pal designs are also on the lower side. But for the rest of the stuff, they are in an okay state. When you take everything into consideration, you can’t say much bad stuff about it.

Yeah, there are a lot of assumptions about them using AI for art, copying Pokemon, or whatever they come up with next, but in the end, we have to agree they are just assumptions and nothing else. I like the way they are going, and I hope they continue to improve upon it. Also, who knows, maybe some other companies see the potential of how their games can be better.

Final thoughts

When it comes to Palworld, we have to take into consideration it’s an early-access game. I believe after the success they achieved, they are going to be making a lot of improvements and making the game even more interesting. One thing is for sure, I’ll be there to see it and test it out. If you want to know more about Palworld, you can do it here.

Will Palworld come to PS5/PS4?

At the moment there are no plans for a PlayStation release. However, after a positive early access launch on PC, I’m confident that it’s just a matter of time before we see Palworld on our beloved consoles.

When is Palworld’s full release?

There isn’t a set date for the official launch of the game. Developers stated that Palworld will be in early access for at least a year. In that period they intend to fix all the bugs and make other improvements that will benefit the future of the game.

Can you play Palworld offline?

Yes, if you edit your world settings from multiplayer to singleplayer, it allows you to play offline.
