Best Offline Games for PC, Steam Deck & More

Finding offline games for PC these days can be a real pain. Most games require an internet connection, even after you’ve already downloaded them, which can be super frustrating.

But whether you’re traveling, dealing with spotty Wi-Fi, or just want to game without being tied to the internet, the games on this list have got you covered.

Just a heads up—while these games can be played offline, you might miss out on a few achievements here and there. Other than that, you should be all set to dive in and play without a hitch.

Best Offline Games for PC Overall

1. Elden Ring

Elden Ring is an action RPG released back in 2022. Since then, the game has taken over the world. It might be a hard one to finish but the time invested is definitely worth it.

If you decide to play it offline, the only difference is that you might miss out on “helpful” messages and blood puddles but other than that you shouldn’t have any issues playing it.

2. GTA V

There’s no need for an introduction for GTA. You won’t be able to play GTA Online (DUH!) but playing in the story mode offers endless possibilities and I’ve tested it — it’s a PlayForge guarantee. No matter how long you’ve played it, there’s always something more to do.

3. Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human is one of the best games that I’ve really enjoyed and had a ton of fun with.

The story is set in the future and you get to play as androids that have gained consciousness. You’ll have to make all kinds of decisions that’ll affect how the story unfolds and what kind of ending you get.

The difference between online and offline gameplay is that when you play with the internet connection, you’ll be able to see the percentage of what options other players picked. But I think it might be even better to play without that extra support because all your choices will give you a unique story and ending.

For my full thoughts on this game, check out my review here

4. Farming Simulator 25

I’ve picked Farming Simulator 25 due to it being recently released but truthfully speaking, you can pick any Farming Simulator and you’ll be golden.

Nothing gets more cozy and relaxing than playing the Farming Simulator curled up in a blanket. Working on your farm and trying to expand and improve it will give you many hours of entertainment.

And there’s really no difference between playing it offline or online mode, so you’d be all set once you download it.

5. Baldur’s Gate 3

There’s a full review and a few more guides on Baldur’s Gate 3 here

Here is small quote from the article if you need more simplified version of it:

“Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition rules and offers numerous choices at every step. The world is expansive and encourages exploration and creativity when it comes to solving different problems. ”

6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The story of Geralt of Rivia is well known around the world, whether through the TV show, books, or games. Basically, he is a monster hunter/slayer and with a world filled with all sorts of monsters, he gets no days off.

The Witcher 3 is an action RPG set in the open world and with all the main and side quests you’ll have a lot on your plate. I’ve played it a few times already and it never gets old, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too.

7. Hogwarts Legacy

Hands down the best game ever made for the wizarding world lovers. You get to create your own character and attend as a student in a great magic school, Hogwarts.

You get to visit the halls and classrooms where the Chosen One aka Harry Potter was in. Besides that, there are so many more things to do in and around the school. If you’re interested, you can read more about it here.

8. Black Myth Wukong

Black Myth Wukong was my most anticipated game in 2024 and I’m thankful that I’ve got to experience it completely and enjoy it to the fullest. You get to play as the famous Monkey King and use all of his legendary abilities that he is known for. If you’re interested to learn more about the game, you can read my full review here

9. Grounded

Grounded is a survival action-adventure game that was fully released in 2022. In this game you’ll be able to experience what it would like if you were shrunk to the size of an ant.

Being that small comes with all sorts of challenges. How would you survive? Besides finding what to eat and drink, you’ll also have to fight various insects and bugs. Bees, spiders, ladybugs and many more will be gunning for you and you’ll have to defend yourself.

10. Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was the type of the game that failed to live up to expectations back when it was released. They’ve even offered full refunds to players who wanted it.

Even though there were some issues, I didn’t see any reason to ask for a refund and I’m glad I didn’t do it. Because they listened to all the criticism and started fixing everything that was wrong and much more. Now it’s considered a really great game and I can’t deny that. You won’t regret one bit getting it now.

Best Offline Games For PC You Can Download Quickly

As someone who suffers from slow internet from time to time, especially during the rainy weather, I know how it feels. Downloading games can sometimes take too long. This is why I made this short list. These are relatively smaller games that shouldn’t take too long to download and can be played offline.

1. Vampire Survivors

Vampire Survivors is a 2022 rogue-like shoot ’em up video game that offers great fun. You get to play as one of the available characters and the main goal is to survive as long as possible. Believe it or not, there is a perfect review on the game here. Might as well go and check it out.

2. Hollow Knight

If you feel like playing a more challenging game that doesn’t take up so much space and can be played without an internet connection then you’re at the right place. You get to play as a bug-like creature while exploring the underground place called Hallownest. Just like everything else, we have a more in depth review here.

3. Hades 1 & 2

Hades is a rogue-like action RPG game that took over the internet overnight. The majority of people who played both parts say the first part is better and I would be inclined to agree with them.

However, I still believe the second part is good enough to be played and enjoyed. It just so happens we got the review on the first part right here —  enjoy.

4. Teardown

I’ve played Teardown on PlayStation and it was an enjoyable experience, I believe it would be even better playing it on PC. In case you didn’t get it, the game is about demolition. There’s tons of content to be enjoyed offline.

5. Dave The Diver

You get to play as Dave, while you dive during the day to gather ingredients and during the evening you’re trying to run a sushi restaurant. It’s a nice, cozy game that should keep you busy for some time.

Best Offline Games That Are Steam Deck Compatible

I feel like the most important thing when it comes to playing games on Steam Deck is that you can play them offline. Whether you’re traveling, on vacation, or wherever, it’s important to be able to play games without WiFi — it’s a portable device after all. So here is the list of games that you’ll be guaranteed to be able to play.

1. Baldur’s Gate 3

Without repeating myself again and again, I can say that during the whole gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Steam Deck there were no issues at all. Everything was smooth and had no hard time playing it.

You might miss out on some of the graphics, but it’s honestly just as beautiful and easy to play on Steam Deck. The controls are perfectly compatible, so if you prefer buttons to screens, just know that you won’t have to even touch your screen or touch pad.

2. Euro Truck Simulator 2

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a great game on its own but playing it on the Steam Deck is a totally different experience. It’s not as good as playing with a steering wheel and the whole setup but damn if it doesn’t come close. Definitely worth trying it out.

3. Hades 1 & 2

Another great game that I think is made to be played on the Steam Deck. It’s perfect for it and it runs so smoothly. Not to mention — it looks even better on it. Just like with Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll be able to play the entire game just with buttons, and it gives you that sort of nostalgic feeling of playing games on old handheld devices.

4. No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is an action-adventure survival game that was released back in 2016 and it still holds up great to this day. It can be played offline but you won’t be able to see other player’s bases, multiplayer, quicksilver missions, and maybe a couple more things but nothing major that would affect the gameplay.

5. God of War

As for the games that you can play offline, God of War has to be one of the best. You might want to play with the settings a little bit to get a smooth picture and longer lasting battery but besides that you shouldn’t have any issues. And if you wonder how it feels playing it on the handheld, I promise you, you won’t regret it.

6. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

You already know that I’m a big fan of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. So I just had to play it on the Steam Deck and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed. It felt great and I had a blast playing it. Had no issues swinging around New York and doing the various missions.

7. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action RPG released back in 2011. So playing it on a Steam Deck would be a bad idea, right? Right? You wouldn’t be more wrong even if you tried. The game runs great on it and surprisingly it looks even better. FPS drops are almost non-existent. The only thing you want to consider is capping it at 30 FPS to prolong your battery life.

8. Subnautica

This is a 2018 action-adventure survival game where you get to play a survivor of a spaceship crash called Ryley Robinson. As you’re stranded on an alien planet covered in water, you’ll be able to explore and try to survive all the danger of being stranded there. And the best part about playing it on Steam Deck is that you’ll sometimes feel like you’re underwater.

9. Sonic X Shadow Generations

This is another great game that feels like it was made specifically for the Steam Deck — it runs so smoothly. Shadow Generations’ plot is parallel to Sonic Generations, a game released back in 2011. Which is remastered and now sold in a bundle together, hence the title Sonic X Shadow Generations.

10. The Last of Us Part I

The Last of Us is a single-player action-adventure game released in 2022. It’s a remake of the 2013 video game The Last of Us (no way).

You get to play in a post-apocalyptic world where there is danger all around. The main protagonists of the games are Joel and a young girl named Ellie. The game was praised for its graphical enhancements, updated animation, audio, and much more.

So if you were thinking that buying the remake of the old game is not worth it, you’re absolutely wrong. For the experience on the Steam Deck, there’s nothing major wrong to report. And again in order to save a battery so you can play it longer, you might want to mess around with settings.

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed the lists that I’ve compiled for you. If you have any suggestions on the games I might have missed, feel free to leave it the comments and I might consider adding them.

FAQs

What games can you download in an hour?

What games you can download in an hour will depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have high internet speeds, even something like Baldur’s Gate 3, which has 150GB, will take no time at all.
However, if you suffer from slow internet speeds, I recommend trying smaller games. For example, you can try:

– Hades 1
– Vampire Survivors
– Hollow Knight
– Dave the Diver

Other than that, it’s important that you check the size of the game you’re downloading. The smaller it is, the faster it should download. But when I had very bad internet speeds (think less than 20 mb/s), the games on the list above were still downloaded within an hour.

Can you play games offline on Steam Deck?

Yes, you can! Of course, you’ll need an internet connection to download them, but once that’s done, and the game is set up, you can put your Deck in offline mode and enjoy your favorite games wherever you are. Just make sure that the game you want to play doesn’t require an internet connection. For some recommendations, check out this list
