All You Need to Know About Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

,

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is an upcoming third-person shooter hack-n-slash game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. The game is set to be released for PS5, PC, and Xbox on 9 September 2024. Whether you played the first part of the game or you just heard about it but it piqued your interest, you are at the right place. I’ll be going over everything we know so far about Warhammer and hopefully, it helps you decide if the game is right for you.

Story

At the end of the first part of the game, the main protagonist Captain Demetrian Titus was investigated by the Inquisition and arrested on charges of heresy. Eventually, he was allowed to return to the Ultramarines Chapter but he was demoted to Lieutenant as a result of the whole investigation.

Since then, Titus has undergone the process (Rubicon Primaris) that transforms him from a Firstborn Marine into a Primaris Space Marine, making him taller, stronger, and faster. So in this part, the main focus of the story is Lieutenant Titus fighting the Tyranids, an insectoid race who have invaded the worlds of Avarax and Kadaku. He is joined by his new squad mates, Gadriel and Chairon.

Gameplay

In the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, you’ll fight enemies using a mix of melee and ranged attacks from a third-person point of view. The ranged attack will be useful for clearing waves of weaker/lower-health insectoids, whereas the melee will be more effective while fighting bosses that are designed to block any projectiles coming their way.

Besides those two, you also have the standard parry and dodge which you’ll use depending on the opponent’s attacks. Titus is accompanied by Chairon and Gadriel which are controlled by AI in single player, but your friends can control in co-op. The game also supports a separate cooperative mode named “Operations”.

Weapons

When it comes to the loadout of the character, as mentioned above, you’ll have two types of weapons:

Melee

Depending on what character you play and what class he is in, the weapon type may vary but it will either be a chainsword, power sword, combat knife, or some sort of heavy weapon like a hammer. Also, the skills, attacks, attack speed, and finishers may vary from weapon to weapon.

Ranged

As for the ranged weapons it also kinda varies from class to class. I think most of them can be equipped by most classes but for example, a Sniper rifle is only available for the Sniper class. All weapons differ in firepower, accuracy, rate of fire, reloading speed, range, etc. While using the weapons you can gain mastery and unlock a better version of it. Which I assume has better stats than the standard one or, in the worst case scenario, it just unlocks better skins for it.

Armor

In Space Marine 2, there is also health and armor. Health can be replenished with medkits but not armor. Armor can only be replenished by executing other enemies. I think that they might implement something different for the PVP mode but that’s just my guess. We’ll have to wait and see for that one.

PVP

There will be three 6v6 competitive multiplayer modes (Annihilation, Seize Ground, and Capture and Control). Players can choose from six different character classes and freely customize their player avatar with various cosmetic items. Unless they change it last minute, the classes should be Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy. It’s worth noting that there won’t be any P2W options for armor or weapons. You’ll be able to buy them but it’s only for cosmetic purposes.

NDA Beta test

You can apply on the official Warhammer website to join the beta for the game but before you do that hear me out. The beta is supposed to be NDA, which isn’t bad in itself, at least for other people but it would be a great source of information for me to write about. Other thing that’s more important is that the game is relatively close to release and chances for the actual beta are slim to none. So applying would be just for them to get you on the emailing list.

Which gives you plenty of time to think about it. Also, there is a high possibility for a free demo to be released a week before the actual release of the game, so that also might help in making your decision easier. If nothing, you can always wait for my honest review of the game.

Final thoughts

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 seems like a very promising game, with the possibility of having a competitive scene in the gaming industry. I’ll definitely be checking it out and having a thorough inspection of it.  Also, you can expect early thoughts about the game if they release a demo.

Is Space Marine 2 in first-person?

No, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a third-person shooter.

Will Space Marine 2 have PvP?

Yes, Space Marine 2 PvP has been confirmed and it will be a 6v6 with three different modes where you can unlock different classes and customize your own character.

How big is the Space Marine 2?

Considering that you need a minimum of 20GB free disk space to play Space Marine (the previous part), which was released in 2011, my estimation is that you’ll need at least 40GB free disk space to play Space Marine 2. However, the system requirements are not yet announced, so we’ll have to wait and see.

How long is Space Marine 2?

Since Space Marine 2 is not yet out, we can only estimate how long it will be. Space Marine, released way back in 2011, was around 7 hours for main objectives and 21 hours to complete everything. Based on that, we can assume that Space Marine 2 will at least double in length (40 hours) or more.

Do you have to play Space Marine 1 before 2?

No, playing Space Marine 1 is not a requirement for playing Space Marine 2. There will be a few nods to the original game, but it won’t be a big part of the gameplay. Though, if you want to, you can certainly play Space Marine 1 or read up on it.
