All You Need to Know About Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a brand-new game in the Harry Potter universe, developed by Unbroken Studios and is set to be released on September 3, 2024. Warner Bros. Games will publish the game under its Portkey Games label, a label that solely creates games related to the Wizarding World.

The main focus of this game will be a beloved sport of all wizards, Quidditch. This is actually one of my biggest complaints about  Hogwarts Legacy — Quidditch should have been added in the first place or at least it could have been a future DLC.

I still believe that it would have been way better if they made it a DLC instead of a standalone game. They could have priced it the same as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and everyone would have loved it. But what do I know, I guess doing it their way is (not) better and somehow more profitable (?).

Or maybe there wasn’t a budget for it? But considering their incredible sales of Hogwarts Legacy, that couldn’t be the case. Anyway, enough of my rambling, we are here to talk about the game that is actually coming out, not some make-believe scenarios.

Quick Summary

Gameplay

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will solely focus on the Quidditch experience and everything related to this magical sport. There are a couple of things that are already confirmed and there are numerous speculations/”leaks” that may or may not be true. I’ll try to focus on confirmed stuff more.

So let’s begin, there will be three modes when it comes to actual gameplay:

  • Career – In this mode, you’ll be able to play solo or with friends against AIs in order to win the Quidditch World Cup.
  • Exhibition – Just like in most games, you’ll be able to select a map, difficulty, and team, and play a quick match.
  • PVP – This is the mode that is going to be getting most played. You’ll be able to either queue up solo with other random people or with some friends and compete against other people.

You can customize your character and select from four different positions: Chaser, Seeker, Beater, and Keeper.

But all the matches will be played in a 3v3 format, which is completely bonkers if you ask me. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in Wizarding World related stuff but I know for sure that Quidditch isn’t a 3v3 type of sport.

However, since you’ll be able to play as one of the iconic characters, including Harry, Ron, Ginny, and others, I guess that’s supposed to make up for it.

One last thing that I’m sure will spark endless discussions is the skill point system. You’ll be able to level up your character and broom and you’ll be getting skill points to spend on upgrades. Now this one might be tricky if it isn’t properly done.

If you’re playing against someone who played more, you’ll automatically be at a disadvantage, and games are going to be ruined. I’ll have to see more before actually judging it more.

Graphics

Now for the looks of the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, there hasn’t been much praise or praise at all. Knowing what they’re capable of and what the possibilities are, I’ve gotta admit that it doesn’t look like I imagined it would.

Not to yuck your yum but I’ve seen mobile games with better graphics. In my humble opinion, they should have invested more time and resources (not like they lack them) in creating a more appropriate game for this day and age. Which I’m sure will affect the sales of the game.

Some of my expectations

As I’ve mentioned on a couple of occasions, most of my expectations for Quidditch were related to Hogwarts Legacy. I strongly believe it could have been one of the game changers in the industry. It could have been a great e-sport game to watch and be part of.

Will Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be able to reach those goals? I highly doubt it, even if it seems like they want to move in that direction. I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, trust me on that. Besides that, I really hope they polished all the mechanics and that playing the matches actually makes sense.

Final words

If you haven’t figured it out by now, my opinion about the game is not the best. Nonetheless, there is still a chance for me to get the game and play it. Call me a sheep but if the itch needs scratching, I’ll be scratching it for sure. And if that happens, make sure to stay tuned and wait for my review of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
